Gemstone Side Table
Inspired by a hexagon cut gemstone. Intricate crushed abalone inlay mimics light which as bent and separated into spectral colors. Solid Hickory.
The Process

The inlay pattern was designed to mimic bent light within a gemstone.

Crushed abalone was placed shard by shard with tweezers for maximum color and glimmer. White paint illuminated the channels.

Inlay channels were flooded with epoxy and hit with a heat gun to eliminate air bubbles. Epoxy was sanded from the surface.
